Niger to renovate deputy governor’s lodge with N16m

As part of plans to give the official residence of the Niger State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Ketso, a befitting look, the state government has ploughed in over N16 million for its renovation.
In a post executive briefing on Friday, the state Commissioner for Works, Lands and Housing, Haliru Jikantoro, disclosed that the Deputy Governor’s residence was in total shamble and total overhauling needed to be done during the renovation.
According to him: “The N16 million was expended to get the state deputy governor’s residence to a befitting level.”
This is just as the state government has approved N100 million for the completion of the Sani Bello Housing Estate in Kontagora.
Jikantoro said the developer for the Sani Bello Kontagora Housing Estate was supported to complete the estate because he was the only developer who continued working on site when other developers left their sites at the cessation of the former administration and absence of fund.
Jikantoro further stated that the state government intends to take one project at a time to enable it do a good job.
He said: “Whatever project we intend to undertake, we will face it one at a time so that we can do a good job in order to leave a legacy to the people.
“We will not dabble into all projects at the same time.
“We will pick one and complete it before moving into another project.
“The fact that Sani Kontagora Housing Estate is picked does not mean that other housing projects in the state would be abandoned.”
The Sani Bello Kontagora Housing Estate is currently at 85 per cent completion and the N100 million advanced to the developer would complete the project in the next few months.
Also, the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Comrade Jonathan Vatsa, said there is no need for the government to build more houses when there are some on ground that are not completed.‎
Vatsa added that the administration is looking into some projects by the former administration that are viable and people oriented with the view to completing them.
He added: “The new administration intends to provide more houses for the people.”
