NGO trains, gives out computers to 1,000 teachers in Niger

A Non Governmental Organisation, the Youth Empowerment Education Initiative, has disclosed that it has trained over 1,000 graduates in various fields of qualification and will dole out computers to qualified teachers in Niger State.
The leader of the organisation and Vice Chancellor of the Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, Prof. Nuhu Yakubu, said this on Thursday when they paid a visit to Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State, that the idea is to have more qualified teachers in public schools and to improve the standard of information technology in Niger State’s educational sector.
According to Yakubu: “We want more qualified and well trained teachers in our government schools.
“We have trained over 1,000 graduates who are specialised in various fields to start teaching in various public schools in the state and 241 have been screened successfully.
“The 241 of them are ready to be posted to various schools in the state and we will pay their salaries for a period of 12 months and after which the state government will take off from there.
“We have subsidised the payment of computers by N32,000 and all they need to do is to pay within a 12-month period.”
Yakubu, who was represented by the Executive Director of the NGO, Christopher Edewor, added that the NGO will present Zenox computers (zipad tablets) to the 1,000 trained teachers in the state.
He said further: “Education is for all.
“It is part of our responsibility to improve our educational sector.
“The Zipad tablet has WiFi and other facilities that will enhance teaching.”
Aliyu commended the NGO, saying such laudable ideas will improve e-learning in the state.
He promised that the state will pay up the difference of the Zipad-Zenox computers for 1,000 teachers who have been trained by the NGO.
