Nigeria’s Dream Team VI delayed their qualification for the semi finals at the ongoing U-23 AFCON following their unimpressive display against the Junior Pharaohs of Egypt.
The Samson Siasia lads squandered their two-goal lead in the second half, allowing the Egyptians to grab successive goal at the Caroline Faye Stadium, Mbour on Wednesday.
The Nigerian lads started on a bright note with Oghenekaro Etebo grabbing the first goal via a spot kick in the 21st minute of the tie.
Nigeria were again rewarded with another spot kick in 31st minute, which was converted by Etebo as the first half ended two nil.
On resumption for the second half, the Egyptians looked charged and launched several attacking forays into the Nigeria’s vital area.
The North Africans tactical approach to the game fetched them two quick goals, which kept the Nigerians on the back foot.
Goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel fumbled the Egyptians first goal into his own net and also failed to stop a connecting header seven minutes later.
Nigeria must beat the Group leaders, Algeria, in the final on Saturday and hope Mali denies Egypt an outright win to remain in contention for a place in the semi finals.
