The duo of D’Tigers and D’Tigress will camp in the country ahead of the All Africa Games and the 2015 Afrobasket for men and women.
The President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Tijjani Umar, has confirmed this.
Umar said the idea was to ensure that both the foreign-based and their home-based counterparts compete for places in the team, as well as get them acclimatised ahead of the tournaments.
The NBBF boss also disclosed that a two-man task force, which includes him and the Vice President of the federation, who doubles as the Chairman of the Technical committee, Muktar Khaleh, are due to travel to the US to interface with the US-based players and organise friendlies and prospective training tour hosts for the national teams.
“We already have friendly matches and pre-tournament competitions mapped out in Europe and in China but we will also plan have a training tour in the United States even though we will camp in Abuja,” he said.
Meanwhile, the D’Tigress are due to resume camping this week ahead of their qualifying ties against Cote d’ Ivoire, Ghana and Liberia in Abidjan from May 26 to 30.
The invited players and coaches of the female national camp will be announced at the conclusion of the First Phase of Zenith Bank Female Basketball League.
