The Department of State Service (DSS) on Tuesday confirmed it lost 10 of its personnel to the recent attack by the Omatse cult at Alakyo in Nasarawa State.
Marylin Ogar, Deputy Director, Public Relations of the DSS, said the security sent 10 personnel to the battle ground and lost all.
Ogar spoke to newsmen at a Joint Security Information Forum alongside with the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba.
Ogar who was in tears, said only four bodies have so far been recovered.
She said: “On the part of the Department of State Security Service, we sent in 10 operatives and lost all.
“Four of the bodies have been recovered.
“One has been buried today.
“The other three will be buried subsequently.”
Also speaking, the police spokesman said 46 policemen were lost to the attack, adding that 32 bodies had since been released for burial.
Mba however surprised reporters when he could not give the exact figure of the police deployed for the operation to crackdown on the cultists.
His words: “As I speak to you, I can confirm to you that at the Nasarawa incident, we lost 46 police officers.
“We have released 32 of the bodies for burial.
“We have commenced massive mop up operation.
“Nigerians must realise that there is a determination on our part, jointly, to ensure that this will be the last we will ever suffer this kind of casualty.
“We are putting measures in place not only to ensure that the perpetrators of this act are uncovered and brought to blook as quickly as possible but also to ensure that disaster and tragedy of this nature don’t ever occur again.
