Residents of Minna were Monday night gripped with fears as a mysterious windy storm and heavy downpour destroyed several houses and electricity poles.
The dusty wind and stormy rain which started exactly 8 o’clock in the evening disrupted movements as commuters hurriedly rush for safety as the storm spanned like whirlwind.
Our Correspondent gathered that most of the houses affected were old buildings built with clay and plywoods.
The Maikunkele, Dutsen Kura Gwari and Maitumbi axis of the Minna city were the most affected as the storm removed most roofs leaving the houses bare.
Both commercial drivers and vehicle owners left the road and parked for fear of head-on-collision as most people resulted to hide for safety for fear of flying objects.
The wind accompanied by lightning and thunderstorm roared angrily instilling more fears on residents who refused to come out to assist those whose roofs and houses were affected.
It took the rain to appease the unending storm described by many as hurricane to a stop at about 9:10pm.
When Our Correspondent visited some of the affected areas, sympathisers were seen trying to assist in fixing some roofs and zinc.
One of the affected persons who refused to speak kept screaming ‘my enemies have succeeded; they sent this storm to me’.
One of his neighbours who pleaded anonymity said “we heard their voices calling for help but the storm was too much for anybody to dare open his door.
“I have never in my life seen or heard of this kind of storm in Nigeria. You can see that the electric poles are even falling; thank God nobody was outside otherwise there could have been shock from electricity.
“I thank God too that the PHCN people switched off power because; all of a sudden a storm without notice could have been more disastrous with electricity power on.”
There was no report of casualty as at the time of filing this report.
