Murder cases: Stop chasing shadows, Ekiti AG replies APC, others

The Ekiti State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Owoseni Ajayi, ‎on Monday said the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, and the All Progressives Congress should stop chasing shadows as far as some murder cases in Ekiti State allegedly committed during the first term of Governor Ayodele Fayose had been concluded by the police in the state as well as the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Owoseni, who spoke in Ado-Ekiti, said the cases had been thoroughly investigated and concluded by police authorities.
He said those indicted have long been charged to court and some among them have been discharged and acquitted, some currently on bail‎ and some still being prosecuted.
Owoseni was reacting to a newspaper report that the office of the Minister of Justice would soon reopen the murder of Dr. Ayo Daramola and Tunde Omojola.
Owoseni added there was nothing to Investigate, saying the cas‎es had been concluded.
In another development, Owoseni said the allegation of certificate forgery by some members of the House of Assembly was also a mere propaganda, as no lawmaker has been indicted or invited for interrogation.
The Ekiti AG said under the law of the country, the Department of State Services could only arrest, but lacked the power to investigate, charge suspects to court or prosecute.
He added that the DSS could only turn such suspects to the police, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission as the case might be.
Owoseni stressed that Malami also lacked the power to prosecute, explaining: “Assuming without conceding that the House of Assembly members have cases to answer, such offences can only be prosecuted by the Ekiti State Attorney General at the State High Court and not the Federal High Court because they are not federal offences.
“From their story, it is clear that they only went on propaganda spree and day dreaming.
“The constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria can not be turned upside down because the APC and its leaders want to coerce and force everybody to submission.
“The sovereignty of Nigeria and its law cannot be manipulated to service the APC and its propaganda machine.
“We hope they will wake up to the reality of their loss in Ekiti and stop chasing shadows.”
