The leadership of the Delta State Traditional Rulers’ Council on Wednesday commended the peaceful conduct of the March 28 and April 11 general elections in the state.
Appraising the outcome, the monarchs congratulated the Governor-Elect, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, on his landslide electoral victory at the poll, describing it as “an expression of collective will of Deltans”.
Referring to Okowa’s victory as an “entrusted position”, the monarchs in a statement issued in Asaba by the First Vice Chairman of the council and the Obi of Owa Kingdom, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II, said the governor-elect deserves the victory having served the state meritoriously.
While urging Senator Okowa to translate his well deserved victory at the polls to meaningful development that would be beneficial to people, the traditional rulers enjoined him to be magnanimous in victory, adding that those who lost the election should show the spirit of good sportsmanship by accepting defeat in good faith.
The royal fathers specifically admonished those who lost at the polls to take a cue from President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan by congratulating the winners at the various levels of the electoral contest.
The traditional rulers solicited for the support and cooperation of all Deltans for the incoming administration to enable it fulfil his numerous laudable people oriented development project that would impact on the socio-economic well being of the people.
