Media personality, Makinwa’s sensational memoir, On Becoming, dominates Google

Popular Nigerian Media Personality and Blogger, Toke Makinwa’s sensational memoir: “On Becoming,” was top on Google search this week, an official said on Friday.
Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Google’s Communications and Public Affairs Manager, Anglophone West Africa, made the disclosure in a statement in Lagos.
He said that the search was from November 23 to 30.
According to Kola-Ogunlade, major trending stories on Google search story this week included the news of Cuba’s leader, Fidel Castro; Ondo Election; Thanksgiving 2016; Black Friday; and Toke Makinwa’s sensational, newly-released memoir.
He said: “Makinwa’s new memoir, ‘On Becoming’ opened up a canker worm of revelations on her private life.
“The book concerns itself majorly with her anxieties, the insecurity and fears of her 18-months marriage, talks about her husband, fitness coach, Maje Ayida and his lover, Anita.
“In what can best be described as a holiday by association, Nigerians on the internet took to sending good wishes to friends and families on social media and wishing them a happy thanksgiving.
“It is a rather innovative way to mark the Federal holiday, which is celebrated on the last Thursday of November in the U.S. and Canada.
“It comes with a significant chowing down of stuffed turkey and some tasty foods.”
The Google manager asked if one could say thank God it’s Black Friday?
Kola-Ogunlade added: “Black Friday comes just after Thanksgiving Day and we can always trust Nigerians not to want to miss out the `awoof’ of promotional sales and great deals from their favourite stores.
“Over the years, leading Nigerian online stores and shops across the country offer shoppers the best deals that make Black Fridays the beginning of Christmas shopping.”
Kola-Ogunlade said following the initial anxieties that accompanied the Ondo State election, people searched for details online.
He said: “It was a huge relief for many as the results from 17 Local Government Areas of Ondo State, saw the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, emerged as the winner of the Governorship election.”
The Google manager said the passing of the iconic Cuban leader made the week a historic one.
He said: “The world bade goodbye to Cuban revolutionary and politician, Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz, popularly known as Fidel Castro this week.
“The revolutionary, who survived 600 assassinations attempts, according to Cuban Officials, was the Prime Minister of Cuba for 47 years and then President for another 30 years.”
Kola-Ogunlade said that it was also a time of mourning as Nigeria’s erudite lawyer and human rights activist, Fred Agbaje, died within the week.
He said: “The foremost human rights lawyer died in the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) according to Kennedy Osuma, who signed a statement for his chambers.
“Agbaje is known for his contribution to the Nigerian legal profession and his jurisprudence.”
Google Trends, launched in May 2006, allows one to see how popular search terms and its demography have been over time on Google.
