The Niger State Government has dismissed as mere tales by moonlight the allegation by the All Progressives Congress that the state government is misappropriating funds meant for the 24 local councils in the state.
Briefing journalists in Minna on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Information, Communications and Strategy, Danladi Ndayebo, described the opposition party’s allegation as a deliberate ploy to distract attention from the landmark achievements of the Peoples Democratic Party-led government in the state.
Ndayebo said the government had never misapplied funds meant for its 24 local councils and wondered why the APC has been feeding the people of the state with outright lies and whipping up cheap sentiments.
He challenged the APC to fault the ruling party’s record of achievement with facts or forever remain quite.
He said it is sad that the issues which the party rushes to press with are ones that it could find answers to if it cares to check from appropriate ministries, department and agencies.
The commissioner said the sort of false accusations being heaped on the current administration by the APC can only come from a lazy opposition, whose preoccupation is to lie with the objective of heating up the polity.
Ndayebo said while the Niger State Government does not intend to abridge the right of the opposition to criticise government, what the APC has been doing is not in any way synonymous with constructive criticism.
He urged members of press to be wary of disgruntled politicians who would want to use them for selfish gains.
