An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday in Lagos granted bail to three accused, including a chairmanship aspirant of Ajeromi/Ifelodun Local Government, charged with illegal possession of two pump action rifles.
The accused, Jeff Joshua, 32; Abiola Lawal, 38; and Isaac Aleshinloye, 30, are facing a two-count charge bothering on unlawful possession firearms.
The Chief Magistrate, K.A. Ariyo, had turned down the remand application brought before the court by the police and asked that the plea of the accused should be taken.
The trio pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The magistrate granted each of them N200,000 bail with two gainfully employed sureties each in like sum, who must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
G.O. Osuyi from the State Criminal Investigations Department, Panti, Yaba had made an application for the remand of the accused.
According to Osuyi, the accused committed the offences on January 27 at Amuwo-Odofin area of Lagos.
He said two guns with serial numbers 9403 and 8412 were found in their possession without valid licences.
The offences contravened Sections 298 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The case was adjourned to February 21 for mention.
