The Faculty of Law, University of Abuja will host a mega event to mark the annual opening of the legal year.
The event, expected to attract prominent lawyers, judges, academics and students, holds on February 7, 2024.
It is organised by the Law Student Association of Nigeria, University of Abuja Chapter.
The highlight of the event is a special honour to be conferred on Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), a distinguished legal luminary and former President of the Nigerian Bar Association.
Chief Olanipekun, who has been described as a “role model and mentor” by many young lawyers, will deliver a keynote address with the theme: “21st Century Lawyers: Exploiting Law at a binding force in this golden age.”
The President of LAWSAN, University of Abuja Chapter, Lawal Farouq Ayobami, said the event is aimed at celebrating the achievements and contributions of Chief Olanipekun to the legal profession and the society at large.
He also said the event will provide an opportunity for law students to interact with and learn from the seasoned lawyer, who has handled several landmark cases in various courts.
According to Ayobami, the event will feature a symposium and an award ceremony, where Olanipekun will be presented with a plaque of honour and a certificate of recognition alongside the Vice Chancellor, University of Abuja, Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, and the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Abdulrasheed Yusuf.
He said the event will also showcase the talents and skills of law students in various aspects of law such as moot court, debate, quiz and essay competitions.
He expressed his appreciation to Yusuf and other members of staff of the university’s Faculty of Law for their support and guidance.

He also thanked the sponsors and partners of the event, including the Nigerian Bar Association, Council of Legal Education, Pan African Lawyers Union, and Wole Olanipekun and Co, a leading law firm in Nigeria.
Ayobami urged all law students, alumni and stakeholders to attend the event and witness the historic occasion.
The event will be held at the Faculty of Law Theatre, University of Abuja Main Campus.
