Lagos has not changed school resumption date — SUBEB

The Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Ganiyu Sopeyin, has disclosed that studies have resumed across schools in Lagos State, stressing that there is no change in the school resumption date earlier announced by the Board.
Sopeyin, who addressed school children alongside the SUBEB monitoring team, spoke through the Board Secretary of SUBEB, Foluso Ajimoti.
While commending the impressive turn out of school children, teachers and head tutors in some of the schools visited, the chairman also frowned at parents who are yet to release their children for academic activities.
Sopeyin said: “We are aware that the reason why some parents are yet to release their children for school is as a result of an unconfirmed report which says that there is a change in the September 9 resumption date.
“I must stress that this is not true as academic work had already started across our schools.”
Specifically, the Chairman commended the headteacher, staff and pupils of St. Francis Nursery School, Maryland and other schools who had started academic work on the first day of resumption and advised other schools who are yet to fully resume to follow suit.
Speaking on the efforts of the State Government to address the state of infrastructure across the schools, the SUBEB Chairman said that the rehabilitation works of schools are ongoing, assuring that areas not yet covered under the renovation scheme would also be reached in due course.
He also informed that the plans by the State Government to domesticate the Home Grown Feeding Programme initiated by the Federal Government was also on course and would soon commence.
Sopeyin expressed confidence in the level of preparedness of the teachers, revealing that a sensitisation forum had earlier been organised for all teachers to assess their level of preparedness and also charge them for the task ahead.
Among the schools visited were Community Primary School, Wasimi, Maryland; Military Primary School, Ikeja Cantonment; Bola Memorial Primary School, Abule-Onigbagbo, Ikeja; St. Francis Nursery School, Maryland; as well as Maryland Primary School, Inclusive Unit.
