Lagos Assembly assures Lagosians on anti-terrorism legislatures

The Lagos State Government has assured Lagosians of its resolve to pass all anti-terrorism legislations and all legislations that will discourage any form of extremism in the state.
The Majority Leader of the State House of Assembly, Sanai Agunbiade, made the promise on Wednesday while receiving a pressure group, Africa Arise for Change.
While assuring them of the resolve of the Lagos State House of Assembly to consider all bills on terrorism, Hon. Agunbiade promised that the Lagos House of Assembly would alert Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, who is the Chief Security Officer of Lagos State, for proactive actions.
Africa Arise for Change urged the Federal Government to prevail on the Iranian government to recall its Ambassador to Nigeria, Saeed Kocheezi, from the country.
AAFC Executive Director, Comfort Solape, made the request during a press briefing held at Alausa, Ikeja shortly before leading a procession of the group to the Lagos State House to present their request to President Muhammadu Buhari through Governor Ambode.
The AAFC members, who were on a “Peaceful Freedom Walk” to the Governor’s Office, alleged that there is a link between the Iranian ambassador and the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, which activities it said was suspect.
They also accused Kocheezi of making utterances, which they viewed as a threat against the country for arresting and detaining those behind the alleged attempt on the life of the Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Buratai.
Solape therefore urged the government to investigate the link behind foreign interference and the recent security incidents in several parts of the country.
Solape explained that the “Peaceful Freedom Walk” to draw the attention of the President Buhari and other government officials to the state of security in the country and cited some of such incidences to buttress their position.
They cited the recent abduction of three girls from their school in Ikorodu, Lagos State by armed gunmen, a development which they said left many parents in a state of worry as they are no longer certain of the safety of their wards.
They also noted that shortly after the Ikorodu incident, hell was let loose in Mile 12 market following an ethnic-fuelled riot that led to loss of lives and property.
The group condemned the Mile 12 market riot, saying: “That such ethnic oriented strife could surface in Lagos speaks volume of how an era of intolerance rapidly crept upon us without us realizing it.
“The foregoing paints a scary scenario but nothing is more frightening than the knowledge that as a country, we must fight these cases of violence in addition to the threat of sectarianism that came to the fore when members of the Shiites sect attempted to assassinate the Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Burutai.”
