The Kwara State Government has cancelled the 55th Independence Anniversary parade, previously scheduled to hold at the Metropolitan Square, Ilorin on Thursday (today).
This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday night by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Sola Isiaka Gold.
The statement said the cancellation follows security reports that certain individuals arrived the state overnight with the intention of unlawfully disrupting the independence day celebration and endangering lives.
Alhaji Gold regretted any inconvenience that may be caused by the canceled celebration, but stressed that the government considers public safety more paramount.
