Jules Koundé could be handed a hefty suspension for his actions on Tuesday night.
The Sevilla centre-back was sent off during his side’s 1-1 draw with Barcelona at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
After a brief confrontation, Koundé decided to throw the ball at the head of Barcelona defender Jordi Alba.
That was an obvious red card and while his team managed to hold out for a draw in this particular game, they will have to negotiate the busy January calendar without him.
Koundé’s red card will now be assessed by La Liga’s Competition Committee and it is likely they will deem the red card as an aggressive act.
If that is the case, the centre-back will be suspended for four games.
That would see Koundé miss games against Cadiz, Getafe, Valencia and Celta Vigo.
The suspension is yet to be confirmed, but Koundé’s silly red card looks set to cost Sevilla in the long-term and not just on the night against Barcelona.
Mbappe handed ‘2050’ PSG shirt
Real Madrid may think they have everything in place to sign Kylian Mbappe in the summer, but the Paris Saint-Germain players have not given up on persuading him to stay.
Mbappe is out of contract with PSG on July 1 and has been strongly linked with a move to Real.
The Spanish giants pushed hard to sign Mbappe in the summer transfer window, but saw two bids rebuffed by PSG.
Real president Florentino Perez is desperate to sign the France international and turn him into a Galactico, but was not successful with offers of £137million (€160m) and £145.5m (€170m) in August.
They could get their man in 2022, however, with Mbappe able to discuss a free transfer in the new year as he enters the final six months of his PSG deal.
His team-mates have made it clear what they want to happen by presenting him a PSG shirt with ‘Mbappe 2050’ on the back of it for his 23rd birthday on Monday.
Mbappe has so far refused to sign any kind of extension with PSG, so it appears unlikely that he would commit his next 29 years to the club.
But his team-mates have clearly not given up on him yet, with Marco Verratti, Ander Herrera, Sergio Ramos, Julian Draxler, Achraf Hakimi and Gini Wijnaldum all visible in the picture shared by Juan Bernat on Instagram.
Mbappe has scored 13 goals in 23 appearances for PSG this season, four of which have come in his last two matches against Club Brugge and his former club Monaco.
PSG signed Lionel Messi on a free transfer from Barcelona in the summer to create a star-studded attack alongside Neymar under Mauricio Pochettino’s management this season.
The French club are already 13 points clear at the top of Ligue 1 and will face Real Madrid in the last-16 of the Champions League in February.
That tie could cause tensions, given PSG sporting director Leonardo’s comment about Los Blancos’ pursuit of Mbappe.
“For the last two years, Real Madrid have been behaving like this, it is not correct, illegal even because they contacted the player. It is unacceptable for us, because it is not correct,” he said in August.
“It is proof of the strategy: an offer comes one year before the end of his contract and seven days before the end of the window.
“They want us to reject, to show to Kylian that they tried everything and to start negotiating for next year.”
