The management of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State has reacted to the arrest of Ayomide Adeleye, a 200-level student of the Department of Philosophy of the university, for alleged murder.
He was accused of abducting and killing a 300 Level student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Christianah Idowu.
Adeleye was accused of abducting and killing the Pure and Applied Botany student around August 19, 2024 at Ikorodu of Lagos State and collecting N350,000 ransom, after which he allegedly killed and buried the deceased in a shallow grave.
He was arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command.
Reacting to the development in a statement on Saturday, Dr. Wale Balogun, Head of Corporate Affairs of the institution, said: “The attention of the management of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, has been drawn to the arrest of Ayomide Adeleye, a 200-Level student of the Department of Philosophy in the University, over alleged murder.
“The news of the student’s arrest by law enforcement agents was quite shocking and disturbing, especially given the circumstances surrounding his reported connection to the crime.
“The university is noted for its serenity, peaceful atmosphere, cult-free activities and academic excellence among its students.
“As a result of the sensitivity of this tragic situation, the university management will not make further comments on the ongoing investigation as it is a matter for the police and the courts of justice.

“Everyone is enjoined to respect the ongoing investigation and allow the justice system to run its course.”
Balogun said the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, has condoled with the victim’s family and prayed to God to grant them the fortitude to bear the heavy loss.
Agboola has also extended his condolences to the entire university community, especially students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, over the incident, which he described as unfortunate.
