Operatives of the Specil Anti-Robbery Patrol Team of the Delta State Police Command on Wednesday declared war on kidnappers in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state.
This came few minutes after the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the locality received a report from one Okonji Ngozi that some armed men invaded her father’s residence at Eziukwu quarters and abducted her father, Ogbogu Okonji.
The victim was said to have been taken away by the hoodlums in their Hilux Van on the fateful day.
The hoodlums, The Eagle Online gathered, had earlier robbed the victim’s family of their money, nine handsets and cartons of juice drinks.
The acting Police Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Roland Preston, who confirmed how the Anti-Robbery team raced after the kidnappers, said the gang fled their hideout.
Preston said: “We traced them to a farm road at Eziukwu, in Ibusa Town but when the hoodlums sighted the team, they abandoned their operational vehicle, one Hilux van with Registration Number KD 406 XA, and escaped into the bush with the victim.”
While he said efforts have been geared towards rescuing the victim and arrest of the fleeing hoodlums, Preston narrated how operatives of the State Anti-Robbery Squad based in Warri axis of the state acted on a tip-off, arrested one Kome Anthony and David Otorido with an unregistered cream-coloured Toyota Camry car.
He said the occupants of the car took to their heels but when the said car was searched, one cut-to-size gun, and one live cartridge, five Nokia handsets, two wrist watches, one police belt and three keys were recovered.
He said Kome Anthony and David Otorido have since confessed that they snatched the said Toyota Camry car along Issele-Uku/Issele-Azagba, along the Asaba-Benin Expressway.
Meanwhile, the suspects are assisting the police in investigation even as efforts are on to arrest the fleeing suspects.
