Keystone Bank employees arraigned over theft of NNPC’s N92m

Two contract staff of Keystone Bank were on Wednesday docked at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly stealing N92 million from the account of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
The accused – Oluseye Oyebanji, 29; and Malik Adeyemo, 26 – who worked in the Information Technology Department of the bank, are being tried for conspiracy, unauthorised access to computer materials, modification of computer data and stealing.
Oyebanji lives at 328, Iju Water Works Road, Iju, a Lagos suburb, while Adeyemo resides at 5, Benson Akinyele Street, Isolo, Lagos.
The prosecutor, ASP Olakanmi Omisope of the Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi, said the accused with two others still at large committed the offences on August 1, 2013.
Omisope alleged that the accused stole the money at the head office of the bank on Keystone Crescent, off Adeyemo Alakija Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
According to him, the accused, without any authorization and with the intent to defraud, accessed the account of the NNPC and transferred N92 million into 20 various accounts opened with various names.
Omisope said the accused and their accomplices also modified the account of the NNPC and converted the money to personal use.
He said the offences contravened Sections 278 (1), (a), (b); 278 (2), (a); 385, 386 (1), (2); 387 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
The Magistrate, A. Famobiwo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N2 million each with two sureties each in like sum.
The case was adjourned to March 27 for mention.
