Kano youths condemn attack on governors, blame Jonathan

The Kano Youth Coalition has condemned Tuesday’s mob attack on four Northern governors in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
The youths are blaming President Goodluck Jonathan for the incident.
The governors – Rabiyu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano State, Babangida Aliyu of Niger State, Sule Lamido of Jigawa State and Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State – were on a solidarity visit to the Rivers State Governor and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
They were attacked by protesters under the aegis of the Grassroots Development Initiative, alleged to be loyal to the Minister of State of Education, Nyesom Wike.
KYC, in a statement by Ahmed Tanko, expressed “shock and anger over the assault and harassment of our Executive Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and three other visiting Peoples Democratic Party governors by crowds allegedly rented by the Minister of State For Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike.”
Tanko added in the statement: “While it is not our intention to take any partisan stand with regards to the on-going political tussle in Rivers State, we make bold to say that the attack on our governors is the peak of the recklessness and impunity exhibited in that state so far by agents allegedly acting under the instructions of the presidency.
“We therefore put the blame of the attack on Kwankwanso and the other Northern Governors squarely on President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who has exhibited the most divisive politics ever since independence.
“And as if confirming our suspicions, neither the Presidency nor its agents in the PDP have come out to condemn the open assault on sitting governors.”
According to the KYC, the four northern governors have not done anything wrong, adding: “The Nigerian Constitution is not written on sand.
“We will therefore, advice those drunk with power and might to read what our Constitution says about freedom of movement and freedom of association. When has it become a crime for a governor to pay solidarity visit on another governor?
“For Wike, he should be prepared for a repeat of the “Port Harcourt Treatment” should he ever contemplate visiting Kano in particular or other parts of the north.”
The group urged “the President to call his men to order and safe this nation further embarrassments,” adding: “KYC and in fact northern youths will not tolerate any further embarrassment on our elected representatives.”
