Two out of the five persons arrested as part of the cartel that plants drugs in people’s bags at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, have fled the country.
This followed their being granted bail when they were arraigned in country.
The President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan, revealed this on Tuesday.
Lawan, who spoke on the level of insecurity at Nigeria’s airports, said this when he met with the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, and the Management of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
He said it had been revealed to him that the court granted the five accused persons involved in the Kano Airport drug cartel bail and two of them have traveled out of the country.
Lawan, who vowed that the Senate will not let the case be buried, asked the NDLEA to ensure that those who traveled out of the country are brought back into the country and made to face the law.
According to him: “Those responsible for the planting of illicit drugs in Kano must be prosecuted.
“During my meeting with the IGP and NDLEA, we were informed that the two out five people involved have traveled out of the country after they were granted bail by court.”
Lawan, who added that the Court has adjourned their case twice, urged the judiciary to speed up action on the case because many people have been killed innocently due to the actions of these people.
