Jonathan set to address the nation as labour delegation arrives Villa

The meeting the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, has been having with almost all the state governors and some represented by their deputies in the Presidential Villa ended about 30 minutes ago. In attendance at the meeting were the Ministers of Finance, Petroleum Resources, Labour and Information.

The Vice-President, Alhaji Namadi Sambo, was also there.

The President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, and the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, just spoke with State House Correspondents:

Mark: “I think this is the best meeting we have had. Definitely this night, you will know the decision. A decision is already taken and that decision is what the nation will be waiting for.”

Fashola: “That is the mini (Lagos) Nigeria for you, the home of everybody. So, we (Action Congress of Nigeria Governors) reiterate our commitment to ending the pain, the anguish and the suspense of Nigerians and we hope that in the process of deregulation we will also see some compassion that takes into consideration the yearning and expectations of our people. In all these, two things are not negotiable – peace and security and of course the continued sustenance of this democracy. Those are not negotiable.”

As first exclusively reported by The Eagle Online, the President is to make a nationwide broadcast this night on the contentious price of petrol. It has been officially fixed for 9pm.

The delegation of organised labour is now at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The members are seated in the Banquet Hall of the Villa. It is not clear if they will meet with President Goodluck Jonathan before or after the expected national broadcast, which has been officially fixed for 9pm.

But a source art the meeting with the governors told The Eagle Online that the governors have given Jonathan the mandate to take a decision on their behalf based on the discussion with labour, which is why it is not clear if the broadcast will go ahead as scheduled or after the meeting.
