Johnson retains seat as PENGASSAN president

Comrade Francis Olabode Johnson hasrecained his seat as the president of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers Senior Association of Nigeria.

Johnson, who won a keenly contested election as President, defeated Comrade Mohammed Saleh of NAPIMS and Comrade Eze Emmanuel Eze of NPDC.

Comrade Johnson, who was elected for the first term in June 2014, was reelected for a second term of three years during the 5th Triennial Delegates Conference of the senior staff trade union that ended on June 29 at the NAF Conference Centre and Suites, Kado, Abuja.

Others elected are Deputy President, Comrade Frank Ufuoma Esanubi, from Chevron, who beat the incumbent, Comrade Jude Nwaogu.

The National Industrial Relations Officer, Comrade Ndukaku Ohaeri, from the Nigeria Natural Liquefied Gas Limited, was reelected after defeating Comrade Elo Victor-Ogbonda, former Port Harcourt Zonal Secretary.

Comrade Eleas Eduga of the Nigeria Agip Oil Company, was also reelected as National Financial Secretary.

Comrade Victor Ononokpono of PPPRA became the Treasurer.

Comrade Fortune Obi of Shell Petroleum was elected National PRO.

Comrade Evelyn Amaka Ijeoma of Fugro was reelected as  National Women in PENGASSAN Chairperson.

Comrade Yon Paul Naron of PPPRA was also reelected as National Auditor 1.

Comrade Timothy Jaiyeoba was elected National Auditor 2.

They will be joined by six other officers who had earlier been elected at the various zonal elections that took place on May 25, 2017 in Abeokuta, Ogun State; Yola, Adamawa State; and Asaba, Delta State.

The elections of the Zonal Chairman and other three notable positions for Port Harcourt Zone were nullified due to irregularities.

In his speech, Johnson reiterated that security of members’ jobs shall form the fulcrum of his regime.

He said: “Under no guise will we allow our members to lose their jobs.

“We will fight any form of unprocedural redundancies or restructuring that affects our members.

“We are ready to collaborate with the government and other agents towards the development and growth of our industry.”
