Islamic body frowns at withdrawal of Tambuwal’s Security aides

The Jama’tu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Ikamatis Sunnah has expressed dismay over the ongoing face-off in the House of Representatives, which has led to the withdrawal of security personnel attached to the of Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal, by the hierarchy of the Nigeria Police.

The group’s National Chairman, Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, told newsmen in Jos, Plateau State that it is disheartening the way every slight issue of security in Nigeria continues to be treated on the basis of “religious, political, sectional interest or gender discrimination”.

The cleric spoke shortly after the official commissioning of an office of a vigilance group built at the Ali Kazaure ward in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

He said: “If there is any section of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution, which stipulates the withdrawal of security aides to any person simply because he has different interest to that of others in authority, I therefore call that it should be amended because it is a great mistake.”

Sheikh Jingir stressed that religious leaders, whether Muslims, Christians or even none adherents of any of the two faiths, the legislators as well as businessmen and all the Nigerians have the fundamental human rights to be properly protected by security agencies as enshrined in the country’s constitution.

He added: “Not necessarily must we have the same interest with others.

“In my opinion, the Nigerian soldiers, the Police, Immigration, Civil Defence and all other security agencies have the onerous responsibility of ensuring safety to lives and property of the citizens.

“And, therefore, any person that is ready to join and serve as security personnel must do away with sentiment and also he must shun all manner of discrimination.”

According to him, peace and security are key to the overall development of any society, state and country.

He stressed that in any place where there is insecurity, the soldiers, police and other security personnel are usually the first victims of violence as they are either killed or injured.

 He called on the government and well to do individuals to support the vigilance group in the areas of logistics.
