Insurgency: Northern Governors call on FG to recruit more security personnel

The Northern States Governors` Forum has called on the Federal Government to recruit more security personnel to effectively curb the ongoing insurgency in the northern part of the country.
In a communiqué issued at the end of its meeting held in Kaduna, the Forum said such move would check the current trend of terrorism.
Presenting the communiqué, the Chairman of the body, Alhaji Kashim Shettima who is the Governor of Borno State appreciated the initiation of the joint task force and the effort of the security agencies at curbing the menace.
The forum also commended the Federal Government for the efforts taken to address the trend particularly the issue of Boko Haram threatening the North East part of the Country.
It condemned in strong term the bomb blast that rocked the Internally Displaced Camp in Yola, Adamawa State and called on the Federal Government to provide intervention fund for the affected victims to ameliorate their suffering.
The forum attributed the security challenges facing the Nation to the lack of employment for the youth, high level of illiteracy, non-usage of traditional rulers, incisive preaching and lack of provision of recreational centre to ensure active participation in Sports.
It reiterated its resolve to revitalize Kaduna Textile Industry and put in place an investigative body to ascertain the level of vandalisation of the Industry.
The Forum also stated its concern to recapitalise the Northern Nigeria Development Company NNDC to invest in the oil and gas, communication, banking among others to make it profit oriented organisation and re-position it to increase the economy potential of the region.
The forum is to partner the National Primary Health Care Delivery Agency to improve the primary health delivery of the region.
Eighteen State Governors or their Deputies attended the meeting including the Deputy Governor of Kwara State, Elder Peter Kisira.
The meeting described as one of the longest lasted over nine hours with presentation from the Management of NNDC and the New Nigeria Newspapers.
