I invested N5m in my drug business -Suspect

A 27-year-old suspected drug trafficker, Nwofia Nnamdi Kenneth has been arrested by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for attempting to smuggle 4.965kg of substances that tested positive for methamphetamine to India. The arrest was made at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos during the outward screening of Ethiopian Airline passengers to New Delhi, India.
The drug was packed in two parcels and hidden in a false bottom of the suspect’s luggage.
NDLEA Airport commander, Hamza Umar who confirmed the arrest said that the case is under investigation. “Our officers have apprehended a suspected drug trafficker, Nwofia Nnamdi Kenneth for unlawful possession of methamphetamine. The bag contained his clothes and few noodles. During search, the drug was found in a false bottom of his bag. His final destination was New Delhi. The case is currently under investigation” Hamza stated.

The suspect in his statement blamed his ordeal on wrong counsel from friends. In his words, “I met the man that introduced me into drug trafficking at a night club in Lagos. He persuaded me to smuggle drugs and I invested five million naira into the drug deal. I used to import textiles from India. They assured me that I will earn a minimum of fifteen million naira on my five million naira investment. I was taught how to identify fake methamphetamine and how to conceal it but my arrest has made life very miserable. It is clear to me now that I was wrongly advised by friends” Kenneth lamented. He is single, lives in Lagos and hails from Ebonyi State.

Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade reiterated the Agency’s determination to arrest drug traffickers and prosecute them. “Members of the public should avoid drug trafficking because they cannot escape the long arm of the law. Seeking quick and easy profit through criminal means will ultimately end in regrets and pains. The NDLEA is adopting various measures in addressing the problem of drug trafficking and abuse” Giade stated.

The suspect will be charged to court soon.
