Heartland Football Club of Owerri returned to winning ways with a narrow win against Lobi Stars in the Nigerian Professional Football League Match Day 13 at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri on Thursday.
The first half of the game ended in a stalemate, while the both teams fought for dominance during the second half.
Nnamdi Egbujuo broke the deadlock in the 71st minute with the winning goal for the Owerri-based club.
Speaking after the game, Captain of the Owerri side, Chukwudi Nwaodu, expressed optimism that the team would leverage the match result to achieve more wins.
Nwaodu said: “I’m happy with what we did today; we will take advantage of this winning and continue to get more wins until the league ends.
“We the players have been well motivated and our demands are being met by the government; on our part, we will make Imolites proud.”
On Heartland FC’s next game with Kastina United, Nwaodu said: “I can’t guarantee anything, but we will give our best when we get there.”
With the win, Heartland FC now sit at the 19th position with 12 points.
