Gunmen have killed six children aged between one and five and burnt a woman beyond recognition in fresh attacks on two Local Government Areas in Kaduna State.
The development was confirmed by the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, on Saturday.
Apart from those killed in the attacks on Kauru and Lere Local Government Areas, several persons were also reported to have sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Aruwan said the attack, which he described as a reprisal, followed another one on Thursday night that led to killings and burning of 13 houses and two shops in Zango-Kataf.
He added that in retaliation, seven herders were killed in a counter-attack at Ungwan Idi and Kasheku villages of Kauru Local Government Area, while two herders were injured in Ningi village, Lere Local Government.
He listed those killed at Ungwan Idi and Kasheku villages in Kauru LGA as: Mustapha Haruna (One year), Ya’u Kada (One year), Sa’idu Abdullahi (One year), Zainab Zakari (One year), Sadiya Abdullahi (Five years), Aisha Abdullahi (One year) and an unidentified woman burnt beyond recognition.
He said five persons were declared missing, while six houses were burnt during the attacks.
“Aisha Mohammed (20 years) and Sadiya Abdullahi (25 years) who were wounded in the Kauru LGA reprisal attack are receiving medical attention at Ungwan Idi Clinic,” the commissioner said.
Similarly, the commissioner said at Ningi village of Lere LG, the two herders injured and rushed to the General Hospital, Saminaka are: Bingel Odi (31 years) and seven-year-old Isa Joda.
Aruwan said Governor Nasir El-Rufai has condemned the renewed attacks.
El-Rufai also commiserated with families who lost loved ones during the attacks and wished those recuperating speedy recovery.
The governor described the renewed killing and counter killing of innocent citizens of the Atyap and Fulani community as unfortunate.
