Suspected gunmen on Sunday killed a policeman and a commercial bus driver in Lagos.
The gunmen, suspected to be armed robbers, were said to be fleeing arrest by the police.
The gunmen opened fire on the commercial bus with registration number XQ 336 EKY about 2:45pm.
The policeman was said to be sitting in front with the driver when the three gunmen, driving in a car, double crossed the commercial bus and shot the driver and policeman repeatedly at the Ikeja Along Bus Stop.
The policeman and the driver reportedly died instantly.
Other passengers sustained injuries.
Two Rapid Response Squad patrol vehicles arrived the scene but the gunmen had escaped while other passers-by and motorists ran helter skelter to avoid being gunned down by the fleeing robbers, who kept shooting as they made away.
A policemen, who requested anonymity, said the gunmen reacted to a foiled robbery attempt by the police.
It was gathered that the team of RRS officers later conveyed the corpses of the policeman and commercial bus driver, alongside other injured passengers, to the Ikeja General Hospital.
When contacted, the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the incident.
Braide stated that the identities of the policeman and the driver have not been ascertained.
She added that the police are on the trail of the gunmen, saying that they would be arrested soon.
