Gunmen during a Christmas eve service in Yobe State shot dead six persons, including the presiding pastor.
The attack was carried out in Jiri, Potiskum at the Church of Christ in Nations.
Though no group has claimed responsibility for the attack as at press time, it bore the imprint of dreaded sect, Boko Haram.
The spokesman of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Eli Lazarus, confirmed the attack.
Lazarus said the armed men had attempted attacking the entire Potiskum but were repelled by the military.
He said it was while they were fleeing that they attacked the church.
Lazarus said: “Unknown gunmen attempted to attack Potiskum but were repelled by the troops.
“While they were fleeing, they attacked a church in a village known as Jiri.”
Lazarus equally confirmed that six persons were killed during the attack on the church.
