Pep Guardiola has emphatically denied rumours that he could leave Manchester City to take charge of the Brazilian national team after the 2022 World Cup.
Current Brazil boss Tite recently confirmed that he plans to walk away from the Selecao after the tournament in Qatar.
And speculation about what the future holds for both him and the team has been rife ever since.
Tite was forced to come out and rubbish nonsensical rumours that Arsenal were trying to bring him in to replace Mikel Arteta – a story that was quite obviously fictitious anyway – and now it’s the Brazil national team who are involved in the rumour mill.
A report from Spain claimed that the Brazilian FA had already reached out to Guardiola after deciding he was their preferred replacement for Tite, offering him a four-year contract worth €12 million per season, which is €8 million less than he currently takes home at City.
Brazil reportedly had “great confidence” that Guardiola would be their next coach until the man himself was asked to clear things up.
“Brazil has very good Brazilian coaches who have to coach the national team,” Guardiola told TNT Sports. “There are very good Brazilian coaches. Debate closed.”
Guardiola had also been linked with a move to the Dutch national team after the World Cup, but that position has since been handed to former Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman, who will replace Louis van Gaal in 2023.
There have long been suggestions that Guardiola could leave City when his contract expires in the summer of 2023 and turn his hand to national team management, but nothing concrete has ever come of that.
