The Companion, an association of Muslim men in business and the professions, is set to host a grand reception in honour of the immediate past Chairman/Chief Executive of National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, Alhaji Zikrullah Olakunle Hassan.
This development was contained in a press statement issued and obtained by The Eagle Online on Sunday.
The reception, according to the statement, is to hold on February 18, 2024 in Ikeja, the Lagos State capital, under the Chairmanship of the President Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria, who also doubles as the Deputy President (South), Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo.
The session, the statement pointed out, is aimed to celebrate and recognise Alhaji Hassan’s achievements during his tenure as the Head of NAHCON.
Strictly by invitation, the host and National Amir of The Companion, Engr. Kamil Olalekan, in the statement, described Alhaji Hassan as an astute Hajj administrator, whose indelible mark at the Commission would stand the test of time in Nigeria.
“Alhaji Zikrullah Hassan succeeded in raising the bar of Hajj administration in Nigeria and in Africa, with the groundbreaking reforms adopted to revolutionise all aspects of the operations of the commission,” Olalekan stressed.
The group added that despite the fact that the ex-NAHCON boss faced daunting challenges posed by the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in the wake of his appointment, he hit the ground running and never looked back in making Nigeria a role model in hajj management globally.

The Companion reiterated that Alhaji Hassan would be remembered for ensuring the take-off of Hajj Saving Scheme; establishment of the Hajj Institute for the training of Hajj operators; making NACHON self-funding; boosting awareness and sensitization on Hajj by taking the message to the grassroots; and driving the policy of inclusivity and openness in Hajj management.
The Eagle Online reports that Alhaji Hassan was NAHCON Chairman between December 2019 and October 2023.
