Google Nigeria on Tuesday in Lagos inaugurated a new software, Androidone.
It is designed to impact the lives of Africans and enable users to benefit more from global internet growth.
Caeser Sengupta, Vice President (Production) of Google, said the software was also infused in an android phone, Infinix HOT2.
Sengupta said the inauguration was in partnership with Infinix Mobility, the mobile phone company that also unveiled Infinix HOT2.
He said the software was developed so as to improve access for internet users and also make the phone affordable.
According to him, the new software would have an offline navigation for Google map, as well as an offline playback for Youtube, which enables users take and watch favourite videos regularly.
“We are using Nigeria as a spring board for Africa and that is why this fantastic device is being inaugurated in Lagos,” he said.
Sengupta added that all Google platforms would be accessed easily through the phone, with its in-built google applications.
Ben Jiand, the Executive Director of Infinix, also said the new phone has added and improved features that make it a delight to own.
Some of the features, Jiand said, included eight mega pixel rear, two mega pixel front cameras; one gigabyte and two gigabytes ram; and 16 gigabytes storage.
He said the starting price of the phone was N17,500 and it could be gotten in black, white, red, blue and gold colours.
The phone, according to him, is two times better in performance and has up to 90 minutes extra battery life with a battery saver feature.
He added that the phone can control data usage with just two quick swipes and also had a beautiful material design.
Jiand said in staying ahead with speed, Infinix Mobility, in partnership with MTN, would be giving out one gigabyte high speed data at N500 for one year.
In his own contribution, Michael Ikpoki, MTN’s Chief Executive Officer, said they were in this partnership so that they would enable people to generate contents relevant for the market.
“One gigabyte data for 12 months is our contribution to the development,” Ikpoki added.
