Girl,15, drags father to court over assault, threat to life

A 15-year-old girl, Damilola Nasiru, on Wednesday dragged her father, Kanike, to an Ilorin Area Court for alleged assault and threat to life.
Damilola of Gambari Area, Ilorin, in a complaint filed by her counsel, Rotimi Oyagbola, said her father had been maltreating her and making life difficult for her.
She said that the accused, through his aggression, ejected her mother from their matrimonial home.
She said: “He, however, transferred the aggression to me since he had sent my mother packing.
“He is making life unbearable for me.
“So I need you to wade in to save my future sir.”
The teenager complained that the accused on May 20 beat her severely, resulting in the dislocation of her right arm.
She said that it took the skills of a local orthopedic practitioner to fix the health challenge.
Her counsel said the accused was arraigned on a three-count charge of assault, causing grievous hurt and threat to life, contrary to Sections 265, 247 and 397 of the Penal Code.
He urged the court to order the accused not to subject the complainant to maltreatment again.
The accused pleaded guilty to the charges, but claimed that he was trying to correct the misdeeds of the girl.
He prayed the court for forgiveness and pledged never to maltreat his daughter again.
The presiding judge, Ibrahim Abdulquadri, granted him bail in the sum of N10,000 and one surety who must be a civil servant in the state on Grade Level 14.
He adjourned the case to June 18 to enable the court observe and reassess the attitude of the accused toward his daughter.
