Nigeria international Reuben Gabriel’s request to have his contract with Scottish Premier League side Kilmarnock terminated has been granted by the club.
The 23-year-old joined Killie as a free agent in April having last played for Nigerian Premier League champions Kano Pillars, but failed to settle in Scotland and recently asked to be released from his three-year deal.
The club acquiesced and Gabriel is now free to sign for another club, and the Super Eagles man says he is pleased with the outcome as he looks to earn more playing time elsewhere to secure his spot in Stephen Keshi’s squad for the 2014 World Cup.
“I’m happy that my wish to leave was granted. The plan is to explore other avenues,” he told BBC Sport.
“I wish the club and fans all the best.”
The former Pillars star’s agent, Tony Harris, revealed that a number of clubs are interested in his client’s services and expects a move to be completed imminently.
“The club has agreed to his request to leave so he can look to make a fresh start elsewhere,” Harris said.
“I’m pleased with the outcome. There are clubs interested in signing him already. His future will be resolved very soon.”
