The Flour Mills of Nigeria on Thursday donated protective equipment and consumables to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo State as support towards the fight to conquer the ravaging coronavirus pandemic.
The items were received by a team of UCH management, led by the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Victor Ifeolu Akinmoladun, on behalf of the CMD, Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo.
Akinmoladun expressed the profound appreciation of the hospital to the FMN for the donation he said came at a time that humanity is yearning for an end to the menace of COVID-19.
He assured the donors that the items will be used to provide good quality care for the patients that will require them.
He further urged other individuals, organizations and public-spirited and influential Nigerians to emulate the gestures of the FMN.
Dr. Akinmoladun also congratulated the FMN on its 60th anniversary.
Earlier, the Group Executive Director, Human Resources of the Flour Mills of Nigeria, Wale Adediran, who presented the items on behalf of the Board, Management and Staff of the Company, commended “UCH for the steps taken so far to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus”.
Adediran, who is also the President and Chairman of the Council of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria, added: “During these trying times, we need to come together as a people to fight the scourge of the COVID-19, which is casting a shadow on our way of life in Nigeria and the world.”
“We believe that with continued and adequate interventions, we can fight this pandemic.
“For a company like ours that shares such a deep connection with Nigeria and her people for over 60 years, we understand the immense pressure this has on the health sector.”
The items donated were four Oxylators, one ventilator, 800 pieces of N95 face masks, 10,000 pieces of hand gloves, 50 pieces of coverall Tvek, 250 pieces of Coverall Non-Woven and 40 pieces of goggles.
The company also donated some items to the College of Medicine, which were received by the Deputy Provost, Prof. Obafunke Denloye.
A statement by the spokesman of UCH, Toye Akinrinlola, said as at the close of business on Thursday, no new case of COVID-19 was reported in the facility.
Akinrinlola added: “The University College Hospital, Ibadan will continue to render excellent care and services to all our patients.
“The Hospital equally enjoins everyone to adhere to the required infection prevention and control measures prescribed by the World Health Organisation and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control such as physical distancing, regular hand washing, use of hand sanitisers and face masks.
“We will continue to update the public accordingly.”
