President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will at 9am on Thursday in the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja formally inaugurate the National Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation, which he established as part of measures by the Federal Government to provide urgent succour and relief to victims of devastating floods across the country.
The Committee, which has Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Mr. Olisa Agbakoba as Co-Chairmen, has been given the responsibility of raising additional funds to support the ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to ensure the provision of adequate relief to flood victims and effective post-impact rehabilitation of affected persons and communities.
All members of the Committee, according to a statement by presidential spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, are expected to be seated in the Council Chambers by 8.30am in readiness for their inauguration by the President.
Immediately after the inauguration, President Jonathan will embark on the first-phase of an inspection tour of states affected by the floods.
In the phase of the tour, which begins on Thursday, Jonathan will visit flooded parts of Kogi State, Anambra State, Delta State, Bayelsa State and Rivers State.
