There was serious fireworks on the floor of the Senate on Thursday as a result of divergent interest on the $22.7 billion loan requested by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The divergent view forced the Senate into a closed door session.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign Loans and Debt, Senator Clifford Ordia, had presented the report of the $22.7 billion for consideration.
But the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe, called for line by line consideration of the $22.7 billion loan .
Abaribe said some senators complained that projects in the loan are lopsided.
According to him: “Some of our colleagues complained that projects in the loan are lopsided.”
But the Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan, blocked Abaribe’s request for line by line consideration of the report.
Abaribe however insisted that the lawmakers must look into the loan request line by line.
Senator Gabriel Suswam in supporting Abaribe’s position called for closed door session to resolve grey areas in the loan request.
The Senate President later agreed with the request for a closed door session.
