Three-time African champions, the Super Eagles, have claimed three places to the 67th position in the latest World football governing body, FIFA, ranking released on Thursday.
Nigeria amassed 513 points to improve its standing in the monthly global placement.
On the continent, the Eagles are ranked 16th behind Algeria, Cote d’ Ivoire, Ghana, Senegal, Egypt, Tunisia, Cameroon, Morocco, Congo DR, Cape Verde, Mali, Congo, South Africa, Uganda and Guinea.
The Nigerian side are expected to improve rating when hostilities begin in the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Africa’s number one team, Algeria, Cameroon and Zambia later this year.
Meanwhile, a quiet month of international football has resulted in a largely static FIFA/Coca Cola World Ranking, with no movement whatsoever in the top 20.
The result of this, after the significant changes that arose last month from the various continental championships, is that Argentina remain top, followed closely by Belgium, Colombia, Germany and Chile.
The next FIFA World Ranking will be published on September 15.
