The Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, has said the Kayode Fayemi Administration has brought smiles to the people by policies executed since coming to power in October.
Egbeyemi said the state government has paid one month salary arrear owed by the Ayo Fayose Administration to civil servants, while it has also commenced the payment of severance allowance to former political office holders.
The Deputy Governor in a statement on Sunday by his Special Assistant (Media), Odunayo Ogunmola, said the gesture was in fulfillment of Fayemi’s promise to make the life of Ekiti people better and ensure that all and sundry feel the positive impact of the government.
Egbeyemi said Fayemi’s priority is the welfare of the people, which shaped the policy thrust of his administration.
He spoke while addressing religious leaders, political office holders and civil servants at the Government House, Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
The deputy governor revealed that government is making sacrifices to ensure that workers are paid as and when due, which was the motivation behind paying them two salaries within the space of one week.
He canvassed the support of workers and all the people of the state, assuring that Fayemi is motivated to perform and leave the state better than he met it.
According to him, the Fayemi administration has more goodies to give to the people of Ekiti State in the areas of attracting investment, employment of qualified citizens to civil service, provision of social amenities and giving economic empowerment, among others.
Egbeyemi said: “During our campaign, we made some promises and we have started fulfilling some of the promises.
“Our enemies campaigned against us, they said we would sack teachers but we have not sacked anybody. Rather, we have started to make them happy and God will make them happy.
“Ditto to the workers (core civil servants); since we came on board, we have been paying them regularly as and when due.
“We have even paid part of the arrears and for those who worked with us before who were not paid severance allowance by the previous government, some people must have been receiving alerts.
“We are going to pay severance allowance, it may not be at a time, it will be in installments. We want to make everybody happy.
“Fayemi has said he will make everybody and by the grace of God, we are going to perform because our priority is to perform and leave this place better than we met it.
“Within few days of coming to power, the governor signed an Executive Order cancelling taxes levies in public schools and also released N200 million to teachers as car and housing loans.
“That is the priority of my governor; God will give us the power to meet the expectation of our people. I want you to know that we cannot satisfy everybody at the same time.
“We are sacrificing everything to make salaries our priority. This year will be a year of blessing for all of us in Ekiti State.”
