A former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Chief Olabode Vincent, is dead.
Vincent died at the prestigious St. Nicholas Hospital, Lagos.
He was 87.
Vincent was governor of the CBN between June 28, 1977 and June 28, 1982.
He was born on May 16, 1925 in Lagos.
He was an economist and a banker.
Vincent’s son, Dele, who is the last child, said his father died around 12.30pm.
He said the family would soon announce burial arrangements.
Euogies have been coming the way of Vincent since his death was announced.
The Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Industrial and General Insurance, Chief Remi Olowude, described Vincent “a pillar of life,” adding: “May the grace of the Almighty God be with you as you rest in His bosom.
“Our great father, friend, lover of truth, epitome of integrity and role model.”
A former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria Breweries Plc, Dr. Felix Ohiwerei, said: “He was a wonderful man, exemplary in character and one of the best Nigerians I have ever dealt with.
“He was trustworthy, very meticulous and very ethical.
“He also fears God. His death is a great loss to the nation.”
Vincent is survived by his wife, Adenike; four children – Jaiye, a pilot; Taiye, an Educationist; Kehinde, an Investment Banker with Chemical Bank, New York, United States of America; and a Lagos-based business Magnate, Dele.
