El-Kanemi Warriors’ fans express disappointment with team’s performance

A cross-section of fans of El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club of Maiduguri on Monday expressed disappointment with the club’s performance so far in the 2017/2018 Nigeria Professional Football League.
The fans, while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria in Maiduguri, expressed their concerns at the club’s present position on the league competition’s table.
The club had drawn goalless with Enyimba International FC of Aba on Sunday in a Match Day 7 fixture of the 2017/2018 NPFL, a result which angered many of their fans.
The fans, who said they were greatly disappointed with the team’s performance in spite of having expensively-acquired players drawn from across the country, demanded for immediate action to address the situation.
“In spite of buying seven expensive players from clubs across neighbouring Chad, Cameroon and Niger Republic, the performance of the club is still below expectations,’’ Ibrahim Usman, one of the fans, said.
He also said the absence of the club’s head coach, Imama Amapakabo, had not helped the club at all, questioning the rationale behind his employment when he is a national coach.
Usman added: “He is the highest paid coach in the Nigerian league, earning about N12 million, but he has been out of the country in Morocco with the CHAN Eagles as a national team coach.
“But why is this so? Why does Amapakabo have to miss all the seven matches played by El-Kanemi?’’
Habu Shehu, another fan, on his part questioned the rationale behind El-Kanemi Warriors having to employ national team coaches in the first place when other good coaches are available.
Shehu said: “We have other coaches, who are unattached and have good records. So, why are we not employing any of those ones and going for someone who is on national duty and will at certain points not be available to us?’’
Anthony Obaseki, the Media Coordinator of El-Kanemi Warriors, in his reaction appealed to the club’s fans to be patient.
He said the club management was working towards making the club better so as to make them proud at the end of the league competition.
NAN reports that El-Kanemi Warriors have as at Sunday evening played seven matches both home and away in this season’s league so far.
They now have eight points from two wins, two draws and three losses, after scoring four goals and conceding six.
