There was mild drama on Thursday at the NIS Gymnastic venue of the boxing tournament when some stares raised the alarm that some states were using ‘foreign boxers’ in the tourney.
Some states allegedly imported pugilists from neigbouring countries such as Benin Republic, Chad and Niger Republic.
Accusing fingers were being pointed at the top three states in boxing at the last National Sports Festival in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
A state official source, who pleaded for anonymity, said after a boxing event on Thursday that the situation is a new development in the festival games.
The source said: “My brother, there is a new development in the games by some states.
“These states imported foreign boxers from Benin Republic to represent them and the lid has been blown open.
‘’From the behaviour and language spoken by these boxers, you will know immediately that they are not Nigerians.
“Aside that, these foreign boxers confided in some of the officials, that they are not Nigerians.
‘’I do not know where actually we are going and what we want to achieve with the National Sports Festival.”
