The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has described the All Progressives Congress as a party of extremely bad losers.
Fayose said the APC had been running from one court to another, challenging the result of an election adjudged as free, fair and credible even by the United States Government.
He described this development as in a bad taste.
The governor said all efforts by the APC and its allies to subvert the wish of Ekiti State people will fail.
Addressing newsmen in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said: “Talks of the use of soldiers to rig the election was a ploy by the APC to discredit the mandate freely given by Ekiti people and it won’t work.
“The United States Government issued a press statement on June 23, 2014, commending the Independent National Electoral Commission for overseeing a credible, efficient process, and by all accounts the result reflected the will of Ekiti’s voters, and the
APC candidate, Dr Kayode Fayemi also congratulated the winner.”
The statement was signed by Marie Harf, the Deputy Department Spokesperson in the Office of the Spokesperson, Washington, DC.
The governor quoted the US government’s statement thus: “The United States commends the people of Ekiti State, Nigeria, who turned out to vote in the June 21 gubernatorial election.
“U.S. Embassy and international observers assessed that the process was credible and efficient, and that security forces collaborated effectively in providing a safe environment free of major incidents.
“We congratulate Mr. Ayo Fayose on his election, and commend Governor Fayemi on graciously accepting the results. We urge all parties to accept the outcome as representing the will of Ekiti’s voting public.
“As we look towards the August 9 Osun State gubernatorial election and the national elections in February 2015, the process in Ekiti should lend confidence to the Nigerian public and the international community that INEC, the security forces, and the political parties have the capacity to conduct themselves in a manner that strengthens Nigeria’s
democracy and gives political voice to its population.”
Speaking further, the governor queried: “If after the US government had openly adjudged the election as free, fair and credible, the APC is still going about inventing stomach infrastructure, photochromic rigging and now military rigging, it is obvious that the party will never accept any election that it loses as being fairly won and lost.
“For instance, after the Edo State governorship election that the APC won, Governor Adams Oshiomhole visited President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja to thank him for providing adequate security.
“The soldiers that provided adequate security in Edo State, such that Governor Oshiomhole had to thank President Jonathan also provided security in Ekiti State that the APC people are making noise about.
“Should we now say that elections will only be free and fair in the minds of the APC people if the party wins?
“Nigerians should therefore be prepared for another round of noise making after the APC must have lost the Saturday presidential election.”
