The Ekiti State Government has begun moves to repeal the council creation law passed by the state House of Assembly last year to reduce cost of governance.
The Chief of Staff to Governor Ayo Fayose, Chief Dipo Anisulowo, stated that the decision to repeal the law was taken at the State Executive Council on Thursdayafter approving the memo from the Ministry of Justice seeking to repeal the laws and forwarded an Executive Bill to the House of Assembly to take necessary steps for repeal of the laws.
Briefing journalists on the outcome of the SEC meeting, Anisulowo said: “The State Government found it expedient to repeal the Local Government Area Laws Numbers 8 and 10 of 2014 to reduce the cost of governance.”
Former Governor Kayode Fayemi’s administration had following the passage of the laws created additional 19 local council development areas in addition to the existing 16 local government areas of the state.
It is expected that the 19 LCDAs will be scrapped when the bill to repeal the laws sails through.
Anisulowo said the council also approved the execution of various projects worth N1.2 billion in six council areas under the Millennium Development Goals projects.
He said the projects billed for execution in Emure, Ise/Orun, Irepodun/Ifelodun, Ido/Osi and Moba council areas included school classrooms, school furniture, medical centres, renovation of health facilities, procurement of ambulances, bore holes and toilet facilities.
The governor’s aide said the State Executive Council also approved the appointment of Prince Afolabi Adeyemi as the new Ojurin of Ijurin Ekiti.
Anisulowo said the new monarch, a deputy director at the National Human Rights Commission, Abuja, holds a Masters degree in Personnel Psychology.
