The Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Mulikat Akande-Adeola, has urged women in Ekiti State to mobilise to ensure success of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ayo Fayose, in the June 21 governorship election in the state.
Akande-Adeola made the call on Friday in Ado-Ekiti, when she held a meeting with PDP South-West Women Forum.
Akande-Adeola advised them to collect their voter cards and exercise their civic responsibility by voting in the upcoming governorship election.
The House leader urged women to make sure to they vote to return PDP to power in the state.
She gave the assurance that the Federal Government would provide adequate security to guaranty safety of lives and property during and after the poll.
The House leader said she set up the forum a couple of years ago to champion the cause of women and fight for their welfare.
Akande-Adeola said: “It is my conviction that women of today, with their intimidating background and education, should no longer be involved in mere clapping and dancing for male politicians at campaign rallies.
“They are supposed to be major contributors to nation’s development.”
Akande-Adeola said that women willing to contest elective positions should make their intentions known to the forum without further delay to secure the assistance needed to prosecute such ambition.
She said: “I am mobilising women across the country, not just for Ekiti or Osun States, but also for 2015 general elections so that we can have more women in positions of authority.”
