Sequel to report that human rights lawyer, Festus Keyamo has been barred from representing the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) in its case against former Minister of Aviation, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, the Anti-graft Agency has cleared the air.
The EFCC in a letter addressed to the Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, a copy of which The Eagle Online obtained on Thursday, stated categorically that Mr. Keyamo has been duly authorized since 2008 to prosecute the case on behalf of the Commission.
A copy of the letter dated June 27, 2013 and signed by the acting Director, Legal and Prosecution, Mr. Chile Okoroma was also sent to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Bello Adoke.
The letter reads:
Dear Sir,
LEGAL REPRESENTATION IN RESPECT OF CHARGE NO. FHC/L/ 523C/2008: BETWEEN FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA V. FEMI FANI-KAYODE
Kindly be informed that since 2008, Mr. Festus Keyamo and his firm, Festus Keyamo Chambers, have been instructed to prosecute the above mentioned Charge on behalf of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. They have since diligently prosecuted the matter up to Supreme Court and back to the Federal High Court.
We hope this will clear any doubt as to the authority of the firm to prosecute this matter.
