The Deputy Whip of the Senate, Francis Alimikhena, is set to clinch the seat of the Deputy Senate President in the ninth Senate.
This is based on the arrangement of the All Progressives congress to zone the position of Deputy Senate President to the South South.
There are only three senators-elect on the platform of the APC from the South South. One from Bayelsa East Senatorial District; Ovie Omo-Agege from Delta Central Senatorial District; and Alimikhena from Edo North Senatorial District.
Based on Friday’s ruling of the Court of Appeal, which nullified the election of Omo-Agege, Alimikhena will be most ranking senator from the South South.
Although, the party has not made any official statement to that effect, but The Eagle Online learnt that the party has zoned the position to the South South.
Alimikhena is also believed to have an edge because he is from the same senatorial district as the National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomole.
