Foremost lawyer and investment banker, Asue Ighodalo, has emerged as the official governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the upcoming Edo State governorship election.
He defeated other aspirants in a peaceful but security-tight primaries at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.
One of the aspirants, Omosede Igbinedion, stepped down for him on the election ground “for the interest of the party”.

Ighodalo thus become the officially recognised candidate of the PDP for the poll.
The primaries where he emerged had the backing of the party’s national secretariat and was observed by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, had emerged winner of the primaries of his own faction of the party earlier in the day.
