Downpour kills three, damages 60 houses in Kebbi

Heavy rain being experienced since Sunday in Birnin Kebbi, Suru and Augie Local Government Areas in Kebbi Atate has resulted in the death of three persons.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the downpour damaged 60 houses and rendered no fewer than 200 people homeless.
Malam Yahaya Chindo, an Executive Director at the State Emergency Management Agency, stated this in Birnin Kebbi on Monday during an interactive with newsmen.
Chindo said two people died in Mungadi, Maiyama Local Government Area while 50 houses collapsed in Augie Local Government Area.
He added: “Our findings in Jega indicate that five houses collapsed and five villages were displaced by erosion.
“In Augie Local Government Area, 50 houses collapsed while four villages have been displaced by erosion.”
He said a building also collapsed at Anguwar Sarakuna in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area, where one person died and seven others were injured.
Chindo said the agency would assist the victims, adding that efforts to sensitise the people to the need to vacate areas identified as prone to flood would be intensified.
